FAQ

The main mission of Boston Electron Microscopy Center (BEMC) is to provide electron microscopy (EM) related support for students and faculties within Northeastern University, and EM services for external universities and industry. We encourage independent use of our instruments after training by our staff.

SEM training: We provide two hands-on sessions (first on SEM and second on EDS) which will cover fundamental theory and operation demonstration. Each session will be 2 – 3 hours long. If you want to schedule a SEM training, please contact Shirin Kaboli (s.kaboli@northeastern.edu).

TEM training: We provide hands-on training on either JEM 1010 TEM or JEOL 2010F TEM depending on users needs. We will cover fundamental theory and operation demonstration. If you want to schedule a TEM training, please contact William Fowle (w.fowle@northeastern.edu).

Lectures: In addition to hands-on trainings, we also offer on-demand lectures and provide theoretical background on specific electron microscopy topics. Please see the Education tab for more details.

Safety Training: All NEU users are required to finish EHS Lab Safety Training before conducting any experiments in BEMC. Lab safety training is available online.
